Diese Serie ist das Ergebnis einer Verliebtheit:
an der Adamspforte des Bamberger Doms habe ich mich in die ersten Menschen verguckt.
Aus dieser Begegnung heraus male ich die Schöpfungsgeschichte rückwärts. Nach dem fünften kam mir allerdings in einer Winterlaune der zweite Schöpfungstag auf die Leinwand. Und inzwischen gebe ich offen zu: Ich male sehr impulsgesteuert und halte mich nicht einmal an meine eigenen Regeln. Jedes Bild ist eine Art Urknall. Ein Funke singt urplötzlich über und setzt im Malzentrum etwas in Bewegung. Auswendiglernen interessiert mich nicht. Aneignung schon. Die Serie ist noch nicht vollendet - so wie die Schöpfung ja auch nicht.
Die biblischen Texte dienen mir bei den Bildern zu “Genesis - alles wird gut” als Inspiration. Solange ein Bild entsteht, halte ich ich mich an sie. Wo biblischer Text und meine innere Anschauung einander berühren, dort entsteht ein Bild. Natürlich stehe ich in einer langen Tradition der Veranschaulichung und ich liebe es speziell mit den mittelalterlichen Skulpturen und ihren anonymen Schöpfern in Dialog zu treten.
Der Untertitel Alles wird gut wird gelegentlich als Kampfansage gelesen. Dabei ist er zunächst ein Zitat: „Gott sah, dass es gut war.“
Diesen Satz nehme ich ernst und frage mich:
Was genau wird hier als gut bezeichnet?
Und warum erfahren wir so wenig darüber, was vielleicht weniger gelungen war?
Genesis – alles wird gut ist keine Illustration, keine Nacherzählung, kein theologisches Statement. Die Bilder bewegen sich tastend durch die ersten Tage der Welt. Sie prüfen und schauen genau hin. Und sie erlauben sich Hoffnung – nicht als Durchhalteparole, sondern als Konsequenz aus der Anschauung.

This series is the result of a sudden affection.
At the Adam Portal of Bamberg Cathedral, I found myself captivated by the first human beings. From that encounter, I began painting the story of creation in reverse.
After the fifth day, however, a winter mood intervened and the second day of creation appeared on the canvas. By now I openly admit it: I paint very much on impulse and do not even adhere to my own rules. Each painting is a kind of primal explosion. A spark suddenly leaps across and sets something in motion in the centre where painting happens. Memorising texts does not interest me. Appropriation does. The series is not yet complete — just as creation itself is not.
In Genesis - everything will be good, the biblical texts serve as a source of inspiration. I stay close to them as long as a painting is coming into being. Where biblical text and my inner vision touch, an image emerges. Of course, I stand within a long tradition of visual interpretation, and I particularly enjoy entering into dialogue with medieval sculptures and their anonymous creators.
The subtitle Everything will be good is sometimes read as a declaration of defiance. At first, however, it is simply a quotation:
“God saw that it was good.”
I take this sentence seriously and ask myself:
What exactly is described here as good?
And why do we hear so little about what may have been less successful?
Genesis - everything will be good is neither an illustration, nor a retelling, nor a theological statement. The paintings move tentatively through the first days of the world. They examine, they observe closely. And they allow themselves hope not as a slogan for endurance, but as a consequence of attentive looking.
